Tonight: Last Friday at Court Street Gallery

May 28th, 2010 7pm

Court Street Gallery's Last Friday Poetry Event presents Adam Clay, Michael Rerick, and Kristi Maxwell.

Adam Clay is the author of The Wash (Parlor Press, 2006) and A Hotel Lobby at the Edge of the World (Milkweed Editions, forthcoming). He co-edits Typo Magazine, curates the Poets in Print Reading Series at the Kalamazoo Book Arts Center, and teaches at Western Michigan University.

Michael Rerick is the author of In Ways Impossible to Fold (Marsh Hawk Press) and X-Ray (Flying Guillotine Press). He is currently finishing his Ph D at the University of Cincinnati.

Kristi Maxwell is the author of Hush Sessions (Saturnalia Books, 2009), Realm Sixty-four (Ahsahta Press, 2008), and the chapbook Elsewhere & Wise (Dancing Girl Press, 2008). Her poems have appeared in How2, Coconut, Tarpaulin Sky, and other journals. She currently lives in Cincinnati, where she co-curates the Bon Mot/ley Reading Series.

Urgent Call: Poets for Living Waters

Poets for Living Waters is a poetry action in response to the Gulf Oil Disaster of April 20, 2010, one of the most profound man-made ecological catastrophes in history. Former US poet laureate Robert Pinsky describes the popularity of poetry after 9/11 as a turn away from the disaster’s overwhelming enormity to a more manageable individual scale. As we confront the magnitude of this recent tragedy, such a return may well aid us.

The first law of ecology states that everything is connected to everything else. An appreciation of this systemic connectivity suggests a wide range of poetry will offer a meaningful response to the current crisis, including work that harkens back to Hurricane Katrina and the ongoing regional effects.

This online periodical is the first in a planned series of actions. Further actions will include a print anthology and a public reading in Washington DC.

Readings This Weekend

On Friday, May 21, I will be reading with Nate Pritts in St. Louis, MO. The reading is at Slow Rocket Farm (1944 Cherokee Street) and starts at 7pm. Please note, if it is raining, the reading will be moved to 1719 Preston Place.

Saturday reading location and time TBD.

Sunday, May 23rd, Nate & I will be reading in Cleveland, OH at Visible Voice Books (1023 Kenilworth). The reading starts at 3pm.

Nate & I will have our limited edition collaborative chapbook available for sale at all readings.

Hope to see some folks while I'm out on the road!

Threatened Species Reading Tonight

Tonight at Court Street Gallery in Old Town Saginaw (414 Court St., 2nd floor, between Hamilton and Michigan), Jeff Vande Zande will be celebrating the launch of his new book, Threatened Species & Other Stories. I will be joining him, reading briefly from my book, A Model Year. The event starts at 7PM and is FREE. I hope to see some friends there!
