Saginaw Interview

Sean Drysdale, aka Pooder (talented musician and book slinger), interviewed me this past Saturday for his Poodcast. I discuss Saginaw, mostly. Some of the things that come up I've been developing into some thing. I wrote a 1500 word essay on my changing attitude toward the city I have always loved and defended, but I don't think that is worth showing anyone. I am now developing some of these ideas into a piece centered around Eminem's Chrysler Super Bowl commercial. Anyhow, if you're so inclined, check out the Poodcast here.

Poem for a Winter Day

I just chanced upon this poem and thought it was fitting in light of the current weather in the Midwest. It it by L.S. Klatt and can be found in his new book Cloud of Ink:

The States of the Great Lakes

Here I hibernate in a parking lot,
8° Fahrenheit, my engine resting.
I scan the spaces for another living soul.
Gulls rip the guts out of quietude.

Scavengers that winter in the rustbelt
--what in their hollow bones inspires them?

Such cheats are skilled in the tongue:
like doubletalk, they bullshit & canary.

All fuss. All flak. They beat the air
into puffery. I egg on the clouds
to paint the town; everything is white
& white again.

AWP

So my flight today was canceled due to the snowpocalypse, but I have rescheduled for tomorrow. If I am able to make it to DC, you can find me at the NewPages table (which I believe is D-23 & D-24) in the book fair. I'll also be at these two offsite events:

Lame House & Binge Press at Madam's Organ, Friday at 6 p.m. Featured readers: Lauren Levin, Nathan Hauke, Ben Somers, Becca Klaver, John Beer, Daniela Olszewska, and Donora Hillard. JodiAnn Stevenson & I will be sharing hosting duties.

Immediately following the Lame House & Binge Press event at Madam's Organ is the Coconut Books / Switchback Books / and Horse Less Press event. Readers include: Becca Klaver, Brian Foley, Bruce Covey, Cathy Park Hong, Christopher Salerno, Claire Becker, Daniela Olszewska, Jennifer Tamayo, Jen Tynes, Marisa Crawford, Natalie Lyalin, and me.

I hope everyone has safe travels.
